Methods of Measuring Design Quality Free Essays

There are a few techniques by which organizations measure the plan nature of items, administrations and procedures. The organizations select the techniques in agreement to their objectives. Likewise the strategies for estimating structure quality might be conventional like the reusability of plan or explicit like the size components of movement framework. We will compose a custom paper test on Strategies for Measuring Design Quality or on the other hand any comparative point just for you Request Now Whatever be the measurements utilized, there is a pattern towards utilizing a blend of loads and rating scales for impartially estimating structure quality. One way to deal with estimating structure quality is looking at the degree to which the various parts or the subsystems of the plan rely upon each other. From this point of view those plans that are unyielding, and have a high level of association can only with significant effort be changed.â When a change is presented it has a flooding impact and it gets difficult to figure the expense of such a change. These plans make a circumstance where the chiefs once in a while permit changes. Another method of evaluating plan quality is to test its reusability. In the event that the required pieces of the structure are profoundly subject to different subtleties, plan is exceptionally reliant. In such a circumstance is essential to check whether the plan can be utilized in an alternate circumstance or a blend. For instance, if there is a decorating unit planned as a piece of a plastic extending line. Will the decorating unit be isolated from the line and utilized in an alternate plastic extending line? Proceeding with the model, can the plastic extruder be isolated from the line and utilized as a piece of another plastic lashing line? At last, is there an inclination of the framework to break in a few spots when a one change is made to the framework? In the event that the plan is weak, at that point there are issues in regions that have no immediate association with the changed zone (Akao, Yoji 2004). In the plastic extending line if the decorating unit is evacuated there is an issue in the cooling unit. Such fragility lessens the unwavering quality of the structure and makes support issues. The creation work force can't depend on the creation determinations. Another way to deal with estimating the nature of configuration is to inspect the details of the structures regarding the acknowledgment of its destinations. The expense of actualizing the structure and the simplicity with which the gadget can be created are assessed. A solid relationship is typically present between the plan and the details and the proportion can be utilized as a dependable proportion of structure quality (Park, Sung H1996). Another proportion of plan quality is to quantify structure performance(Belavendram, N 1995). For this situation the structure quality assesses various elements like the craftsmanship, the expense of plan, the expense of creation, and even the arrival on speculation of the plan procedure. In the event that the plan is made by an inward group there is even a correlation of the presentation of the structure with the normal execution from outside originators. Estimating the structure quality has expected new significance with how plans are being figured out how to expand estimation of the association to its clients. Rather than substantial final results, there are organizations that assess the plans of plans of action and improve its structures to guarantee that each communication with a client is reliable and powerful. Plan quality is likewise estimated from the perspective of the client. The plan is relied upon to make the procedure understood to the client. Also, the structure should make the conduct of the association, framework or the procedure reliable to the client, Further; the plan ought to be with the end goal that the procedure or the framework ought to give input. In the event of cooperation with the client, the input ought to be both visual and sound. The message nonetheless, ought to be clear. The structure of a procedure or a framework ought to be to such an extent that the client ought to successfully have the option to follow the way of activity (Hoyle, David 2005). There ought to be a nearby correspondence between the determinations that have been given to the client and the way in which the framework works. At last, the plan ought to take into account proportions of control. Estimating structure quality is regularly an undertaking of applying general standards of planning. The general standards of planning incorporate inquiries like is the structure inconvenience free? A straightforward and basic structure is liked. Likewise is the structure is durable? A versatile plan is attractive as is an ageless structure. The plan should engage the group of people yet to come. A decent plan takes care of the unsettled issue (Hayes, Bob1998). A decent plan gives a couple of components to the clients that can be joined by the clients themselves. A ton of work goes into a top notch structure and this is reflected in the plan itself. One of the measurements broadly utilized in estimating plan quality is the utilization of balance. Further, the tweaking that has been never really configuration to improve its quality and execution. Quality structure can be repeated and is not the same as the standard. At long last, great structure is done in enormous pieces. From the viewpoint of creation the board recollect that the structure quality is significant moving control framework. In this setting the nature of configuration grasps the choice of the engine drive gadgets, situating component and movement controller.. Structure quality rises up out of the arranging that goes into the improvement of the framework. Structuring quality involves full portrayal and comprehension of the procedure. Fastidious subtleties go into this structuring stage like the accuracy of the movement, the movement length of each hub and the quantity of hub. A decent quality plan indicates if the situating is revolving, direct or a mix of stages (Card, David N Glass. R 1990). The nature of configuration is likewise assessed by the way wherein it joins the phase as an essential piece of the bigger framework. The capacity of the phase to meet its details is likewise a significant thought in estimating plan quality. The plan likewise includes the manner by which the framework is mounted on a level surface to stay away from mutilations. The nature of configuration is likewise decided from the manner by which the lifetime necessities of the framework are joined into the stage details. On the off chance that the necessities change, at that point the framework may must be expelled to an alternate situation during its lifetime. Great quality structure mulls over the size and the ecological outcomes of the framework. Both even and vertical size imperatives should be thought of. Elements like the decision of drive type, choice of engine and the mechanical and electrical parts of the framework movements are significant factors in evaluating the structure quality. With regards to client care, estimating structure quality methods assessing parameters that go into a superior arrangement of administration to the clients. To convey reliably predominant help requires an elevated level of plan quality. The plan must incorporate procedures, individuals and the innovation. Just if the structure is of high caliber will the organization get expanded deals from clients that have encountered unrivaled help. Â The configuration frequently stretches out to parts of data innovation. The planning of items and administration reactions dependent on information frequently are basic in pulling in and holding clients. The nature of configuration thinks about the administrations gave like following the decisions of individual clients, installment techniques, examples of purchasing, bolster sites and live visits with specialized staff. To be effective the structure must consider factors like help innovation, culture of the association, motivating force framework, preparing and enlistment of client care staff. By and large like a creation setting or a client support framework, there are a few measurements that are chosen for estimating the structure quality. Typically, these measurements depend on the target of the association and are examined with the architect before the plan starts (Wood, Jane Silver, Denise 1989). For instance, the organization that needs to plan a movement control framework will talk about with its creation engineers determinations that are required for the movement control framework and concur on a couple of measurements that will be utilized to gauge the structure quality. For instance it might be the situating of the straight rotational, the flexibility of the framework, the size of the framework, the halting capacity of the drive and accuracy of the depiction of the framework. Every one of these measurements for estimating structure quality ought to be given a weight with the goal that the whole of the gauges indicates 1. For instance, the halting capacity of the drive might be given a load of 0.3 and the accuracy of the portrayal of the framework might be given a weigh of 0.1, etc. By and by these loads are chosen together by the administration and the fashioner. A report for estimating structure quality normally has a rating size of five connected to every measurement. After the structure is finished a rating is given to every measurement. The rating may go from 1 to 5, where 1 is the most minimal rating and 5 is the most elevated rating. Each evaluating is increased with the individual rating. For instance the halting capacity of the drive may get a rating of 3, this figure is increased by its weight of 0.3 and we get a score of 0.9. The scores for every measurement is included and a composite score is determined. As the loads indicate 1, the composite score ranges from 1 to 5, with 1 being the most minimal structure quality and 5 the most elevated conceivable quality measure. The genuine composite measure for plan quality will run somewhere in the range of 1 and 5. To whole, there is a wide scope of measurements utilized for estimating structure quality. Some are nonexclusive measurements like the adaptability of the structure, the versatility or its weakness. Others are measurements identified with explicit circumstances like the measurements for estimating the plan nature of a movement framework. Structure nature of client assistance frameworks or

How to Create an Agile Manufacturing Plan

How to Create an Agile Manufacturing Plan Agility is often mentioned as a key to competitive advantage and business success. An agile approach is more commonly associated with computing and data, but it can also be used to describe a manufacturing methodology. © Shutterstock.com | tele52What is agile manufacturing all about and could your business benefit from it? This guide will explain the concept of agile manufacturing, the key elements of the method and provide you with  tips on how to implement an agile manufacturing plan for your organization. Finally, we’ll explore the advantages and disadvantages of this approach.WHAT IS AGILE MANUFACTURING?Agile manufacturing is essentially an approach a manufacturing company takes to manufacture products. It looks at the processes, tools and training the company is using in order to respond to customer needs and market changes. An agile manufacturing strategy would use processes, tools and training, which enables it to respond to these needs and changes rapidly without jeopardizing the cost and quality of the product. The focus of agile manufacturing lays on the response time and the aim is to react to customer needs quickly. Therefore, agility and speed become the competitive advantages of agi le manufacturing. The processes, tools and training are often supported by a highly integrated information technology system. The products tend to be highly customizable and modular. The technology is used to allow different players (marketers, designers, the production team) to share data and to use it to solve problems that might slow down the process otherwise. The emphasis is on correcting quality issues and implementing changes at the earliest point in the manufacturing process, as this is considered cheaper and quicker than corrective actions later on.This requires agile manufacturing organizations to be structured differently compared to traditional manufacturers. These organizations tend to have flatter hierarchical structures, as employees need to react quickly to customers needs. This also requires the organizations to have high levels of communication to ensure changes are implemented swiftly.Furthermore, agile manufacturing is prevalent in well-developed local markets. Ag ile manufacturers benefit from the proximity to the local market, as it can improve speed and agility. Implementation of changes to products can be much more effective in these markets. Moreover, being close to the customer ensures that agile manufacturers can respond to even slight changes in customer behavior quickly.THE KEY ELEMENTS OF AGILE MANUFACTURINGThe model of agile manufacturing is built on four core elements. These include Modular Product Design, Information Technology, Corporate Partners, and Knowledge Culture.Modular Product DesignAgile manufacturing tends to create products, which allow modification and variation quickly. This is best achieved by the Modular Product Design approach, which means products are designed in a modular fashion. Modular products are typically built from a number of different pieces, allowing fast and easy variation. For example, instead of creating the product from a single piece of material, the manufacturer would create smaller pieces that f it together to create the product. If you’d want to change a specific aspect of the product, you wouldn’t need to change the whole process. You could simply make design changes to an individual piece, while still changing the overall look or function of the product.Information TechnologyAgile manufacturing also involves the use of information technology, especially in order to improve internal and external communication. This is essentially about dissemination of information throughout the organization to ensure employees are up-to-date and able to respond quickly.Proper implementation of information technology allows employees to make decisions quicker in terms of product design. Furthermore, it allows a rapid response time to customer queries, as information is disseminated quickly across the different platforms.Corporate PartnersOn the contrary to the traditional model of manufacturing, the agile manufacturing model aims to leverage relationships with other companies. Short-t erm partnerships and co-operative projects are encouraged, as they can help the company to enter and adjust to new or changing markets quicker. The company will be better suited to improve time-to-market for products by working closely with companies that are already present in these markets. For example, introduction to a new market can be quicker by using an existing supplier in this market prior to establishing your presence there.Knowledge CultureFinally, agile manufacturing relies heavily on the creation of a knowledge culture. This means agile manufacturers invest in employee training to ensure rapid change and adaptation are understood and supported throughout the organization. When a company is considering implementing agile manufacturing, creation of knowledge culture will be key to success. Switching to agile manufacturing is not always easy and appropriate training should be provided to support employees during the process.THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN LEAN MANUFACTURING AND AGILE MANUFACTURINGWhen an organization is considering ways to organize its manufacturing process, they can come across another manufacturing concept called lean manufacturing. While both lean and agile manufacturing can help companies lower costs, improve customer service and boost responsiveness, there are certain differences in these methodologies.Lean manufacturing is focused on minimizing the costs of manufacturing. The focus is therefore on demand-based manufacturing, which aims at eliminating investments in inventory. Lean manufacturing involves improving the effective use of utilities, facilities and materials. The process is driven by the mind-set that it can be constantly improved to make manufacturing more cost efficient. Therefore, lean manufacturing emphasizes improvement and the measurement of performance. You could view both models through the analogy of a person. One could be a thin person or one could be a fit person. Thin and fit is not the same, but a person can also be thin and fit. Similarly, an organization can be a lean or an agile manufacturer, or the company could become both. However, an agile manufacturing plan doesn’t automatically mean it’s also lean.In fact, lean manufacturing is often considered the precursor of agile manufacturing. This is because lean practices can enable agile manufacturing practices. The similarities of these models include:Support of revenue creation and sustainabilityImproved competitivenessThe combination of a lean and an agile manufacturing approach is often referred to as ‘leagile’ manufacturing. Leagile manufacturing can be achieved by using several different approaches, including:Combination of a lean make-to-stock manufacturing approach for products in high demand and make-to-order agile manufacturing approach for other products.Creation of a flexible production capacity for responding to demand surges or unexpected customer requirements.Implementation of postponement strategies, which allow the bas e product to be manufactured in advance, with the final assembly and configuration adding the variation and changes needed based on the final customer order. The key is to understand both approaches and the benefits of using either strategy. Ultimately, the decision of choosing the right manufacturing system depends on your organizations needs, as well as the type of product you are manufacturing. While lean and agile manufacturing can have beneficial synergies to keep in mind, these two approaches are ultimately different in terms of implementation and focus.THE FOUR STEPS TOWARDS AN AGILE MANUFACTURING PLANImplementing agile manufacturing in your organization will require careful planning. The process is by no means easy, but the following steps will ensure you focus on the key issues when considering the agile approach.1. ResearchFirst, you must conduct extensive research into agile manufacturing. The most important aspects to understand and study include:The cost of agile manufac turingThe processes required for agile manufacturingThe concrete tasks involved in the processesYou should understand these three aspects in relation to your business. For example, the cost of implementation can vary depending on the industry you operate in and the business model you are using. One of the ways to get a better understanding of the above points is by examining other businesses. You should try to find organizations similar to your business, which have implemented agile manufacturing in the past.Furthermore, consider the benefits and downsides to transforming your current manufacturing model into an agile model. We’ll discuss the advantages and disadvantages in more detail in the following section. Consider the points in terms of your business and get a better understanding whether the benefits outweigh the costs in your circumstances. It’s essential to understand certain products are more suitable for agile manufacturing than others. Examine your products and ask the following questions:Would this product benefit from better personalization? Is there a potential market for creating the product as a modular product model?Do you know of a product that could be developed through agile manufacturing model? What competitive advantages could your business provide to such a product?2. Appoint a task forceImplementation of an agile manufacturing plan will take time and you should clearly define the people in charge of managing this change. This not only helps smoothen the process, but it also ensures accountability.Assemble a task force in charge of creating a plan for agile manufacturing. You can shift job responsibilities within your organization to allow a group of people to focus on the task. Previous knowledge of agile manufacturing can be beneficial, but the key is to support the group and provide them with the necessary resources. Make sure a board member is part of the team, as this change is a strategic shift that will shape the future of your business. The task force should provide regular updates on the process. The group should have a clear set of objectives it needs to achieve and you want to implement a timetable for the process. The task force should play an important role in creating the knowledge culture in the company. Whilst you want to narrow down the amount of employees who are in charge or researching the ways to implement agile manufacturing, you want to have everyone in the organization involved in the process. According to the State of Agile Survey, conducted by software provider VersionOne, “general resistance to change” is among the biggest barriers of agile adoption in organisations. Over 40% of respondents felt there’s a tendency to resist change within organisations and this can hinder the effectiveness of agile manufacturing.3. Examine current supplier relationsSince partnerships are the key to agile manufacturing, you should examine your existing partnerships before implementing the new approac h. You will find this important for two reasons:First, it ensures you strengthen stable partnerships, which enhance agile manufacturing.Second, it enables you to locate partnerships that don’t work for your benefit. You should re-evaluate your existing supplier partnerships to categorise your relationships to the above two groups. You can take advantage of relationships that might be beneficial for agile manufacturing and get rid of the ones, which are not strengthening your organizational capabilities. Do not stick to suppliers that cause problems, especially in terms of responsiveness and speed.4. Draw a long-term planFinally, you should establish a long-term plan for agile manufacturing. The implementation process will take time and getting agile manufacturing to full speed will be an enormous task. You should draw a long-term plan together with the task force. This plan should include:Benchmarks â€" What are the signs of success for your business? How can you measure the objecti ves?Milestones â€" When should key objectives be accomplished?Contingenciesâ€" What if things go wrong? How to correct mistakes or change direction?Preparing for eventual obstacles or problems should be an important priority for the team. Major changes to organizational structure, such as the implementation of an agile manufacturing plan, will need to weather the storms, so to speak. It is important to outline possible problems and obstacles beforehand, as well as have a plan for overcoming unexpected situations.Check out the below video of how Dell implemented agile manufacturing in its company: THE BENEFITS OF AN AGILE MANUFACTURING PLANSo, what are some of the benefits of implementing an agile manufacturing plan in your organization? The effectiveness of agile manufacturing strategy comes from its ability to focus on customer satisfaction.Agile manufacturing achieves great results because it:Provides consumers with an instant gratification â€" Consumers appreciate speed and are c learly ready to pay extra for fast service. Consider, for example, the popularity of next day delivery services. Big online retailers have invested resources to provide consumers faster deliveries. Amazon, for instance, has even started testing its same day delivery in a number of cities.Allows consumers to choose â€" Agile manufacturing guarantees consumers can obtain personalized products without compromising the quality or service speed. Consumers appreciate the ability to make a choice and the ability to tweak a product can make it seem more valuable to the consumer. Your organization is not only able to provide more choice in terms of current customization, but you’ll also be more flexible in changing the product around to suit future trends.Furthermore, an organization can also enhance its ability to change. Consumer needs and preferences are not static. In fact, in today’s globalised world, consumer expectations and wishes evolve quickly.A traditional manufacturing approa ch is not able to adjust to these trends as quickly as agile manufacturing. By the time a traditional manufacturing process has adjusted to a new trend, the trend might already have changed. But as we’ve explained above, agile manufacturing’s modular product design guarantees you can tweak the product without disrupting the whole manufacturing process. Therefore, reacting to consumer preferences becomes flexible and easy. This will naturally improve consumer satisfaction and ensures consumers don’t look elsewhere for feeding their new requirements.THE DISADVANTAGES OF AN AGILE MANUFACTURING PLANBut agile manufacturing can also have its drawbacks. Like any other manufacturing process and methodology, it isn’t perfect in its responsiveness to different demands. If the new product creates a large spike in demand, agile manufacturing might find it difficult to respond quickly, as it doesn’t always focus on large inventory creation. On the other hand, a drastic drop in demand of high production products could result in unsold products. Both instances can present huge challenges to the business in terms of customer service and financial cost.Since knowledge culture is the key to agile manufacturing, the cost of educating employees will be significantly higher than in the traditional manufacturing model. You’ll need a highly skilled workforce, which requires quite an investment in terms of training.Costs are also an issue when it comes to implementing an agile manufacturing plan in an already existing production line. Since you’ll be introducing a modular product design, you might need to invest in new technology, which can be difficult and costly. The complexity of new technologies can come with other issues such as increased production downtime, as maintenance can be more complicated.Overall, the intensive planning and management required for a successful agile manufacturing process can be difficult to achieve. Your organization must be aware of the co sts associated with the methodology and be able to navigate through the research and planning without causing disruptions in your existing business practices.CONCLUSIONBy implementing agile manufacturing, companies can rapidly respond to consumer needs and requirements without sacrificing the quality and increasing the cost of the product. When the plan is implemented correctly, companies can use the approach as a way to gain a competitive advantage. But the implementation of the process isn’t always easy and your organization needs to be aware of the costs associated with the process. Proper research to identify best practices is essential and you should implement a company-wide structural change to ensure everyone understands agile manufacturing and its importance to your business. Agile manufacturing isn’t the choice for all companies, but by understanding and examining its benefits and downsides, you can decide whether the process is feasible and cost-effective for your organ ization.

Mazzini aimed to unite Italy, and made a lot of failed attempts to do so.He had a vision of an independent nation of ‘free men and equals’, and he also thought that all of the Italian speaking states should unite, not just the northern ones, as many people had previously considered. He was a strong believer in democracy, believing that it was necessary for the people’s voices and ideas to be heard. He did not, however, have any problem with the use of violence or revolution to bring about this united Italy, and in fact believed it would be necessary. In order to achieve this, he made a lot of endeavours, the majority of which were unsuccessful. In 1920 at the age of 15, he led a student demonstration, which was a failure and served only to get him into a lot of trouble – he was noticeably absent from the revolutions of 1820 and 1821 that followed soon after. He joined the Carbonari in the late 1820s, but was caught and arrested, and either exiled to France or set free and asked to leave the country (the exact nature of his departure is unknown), so he ended up in France by February of 1831. This was where he founded his first nationalist group – Young Italy. This was similar to a secret society, however had a slightly different philosophy, as it was founded on his personal beliefs of what a united Italy should be like, and what should be done to achieve it. He was soon expelled from France, so Young Italy did not get very far. He went to Switzerland and planned a revolt in Savoy, which also failed miserably. He then founded Young Europe, but was soon asked to leave Switzerland too. He went to England, where he founded the Second Young Italy, which also was not very successful. He then agreed to help the Bandiera brothers, two brothers who were planning a revolt in Italy, however this too failed, with less than 20 people turning up, and both of the brothers were shot. Clearly Mazzini’s career and direct role in the unification of Italy were not as significant as he had hoped they might be. One of Mazzini’s failures during this period was his alienation of the peasants. Although later on, in the 1960s, he brought the peasants very much into the action, at this point, he did little for them.Although he advocated freedom of speech and democracy, he had no plans to alleviate the stressful economic conditions for poor, or to make conditions better for the workers, who were the majority of the people in Italy. Instead his followers were mostly of the middle class, which was a significantly smaller group in number. Another failure was Mazzini’s noticeable absence in all of the main revolutions in Italy during this period. He took part neither in the revolutions of the early 1820s (although this was partly to do with his own negative experience) nor the revolutions occurring in the Papal States in 1831.While the most significant revolutions of the period –those in 1848 – were in some way influenced by him, he was not present here either. This brings to light a very important point – that while there were revolutions that were a t least somewhat successful, Mazzini was not a part of them, leading one to consider that maybe he did not play an important role at all. It makes one consider that perhaps unification would have occurred just as readily without Mazzini, and question whether he was really that significant, however he did have some impact during this time, in a less direct manner. One of the most important things that Mazzini did for the unification of Italy was to bring out a sense of national awareness. He created nationalist groups like Young Italy and Young Europe, which were aimed to appeal to the youth of Italy – the people who were not tied to the existing regime and were vulnerable to his propaganda. Despite being considered somewhat of a failure, he was well known throughout Europe (and especially in Italy), enough so that Metternich (the Austrian chancellor) once referred to him as ‘the most dangerous man in Europe’.This was not because he was particularly good at what he did, in fact most of his endeavours failed, as aforementioned, but because he was bringing ideas into the open, which had the potential t o lead to revolutions and attempts to overthrow the existing forms of leadership. Many of his ideas had existed previously, but were unknown to the majority of the Italian people, and he made them known throughout Italy. Whether people were interested in uniting Italy or not, he had brought the ideas out into the open, and rooted them in people’s minds. Mazzini was also quite a charismatic man, and so his speeches were paid a lot of attention. When he spoke about the possibilities for a united Italy, it was well received by a lot of people, and made them believe that even rather unrealistic ways of uniting Italy might by possible. In this way, Mazzini played a very important rule in the unification of Italy. Part of Mazzini’s role in the unification of Italy came not from his direct actions, but indirectly, from the actions of his followers. One of his most famous followers was Giuseppe Garibaldi, who helped to lead the revolution in Piedmont in 1848, and is today considered one of the most important figures in the unification of Italy. Garibaldi was a loyal follower of Mazzini in the early 18th Century, and although later in the century he began to disagree with much of Mazzini’s philosophy, he got many of his early ideas from Mazzini. But it was not just Garibaldi. During the 1848 revolutions, which occurred all over Europe and began in Italy, it was followers of Mazzini who set the ball rolling. They desired his goals of democracy and an independent united state, and were influenced by his belief that the only way to achieve this was through revolution. Perhaps Mazzini’s most important role in the unification of Italy, however, was the inspiration he left. Even to those who were already aware of ideas like his, and perhaps even those who already believed and were passionate about them, he acted as an inspiration to act. While many people at the time were just talking, he proposed actual action, which led people to believe there was a real chance of success. He had many followers, and even more admirers, and people liked to act in his name. The role of Giuseppe Mazzini is hard to define – on paper, his career was a failure, and one might say he did very little to achieve any sort of unification for Italy, and in fact all of the sig nificant events towards unification during this time seem to have occurred without his presence. However through the ideas he brought out, the people he influenced, and the inspiration he was to many people in Italy, he played a very large and significant role indeed. He was a crucial part of the unification of Italy up to 1850. How to cite Mazzini’s Role in Uniting Italy, Papers

Kisses From Katie Essay Example

Kisses From Katie Paper Kisses From Katie by: Katie Davis Author, Katie Davis, started her missionary and writing career at the astonishing age of 18. Katie was no ordinary teen-aged high school graduate, she graduated as class president with other accomplishments throughout her high school years such as Homecoming Queen. She could have carved out a career and established a solid social-life, until God radically stepped in. l have absolutely no desire to write a book about myself. This is a book about a Christ who is alive today and not only knows but cares about the hairs on my head. Im writing this book to emind you of this living, loving Christ and what it means to serve Him And if He can use me, He can use you. , said Katie when an anonymous blogger inquired about her reasoning on composing Kisses From Katie. In this quote, Katie talks about God using her to serve Himself and others and that is exactly what she does. In December of 2006, Katie travels to Uganda for the first time. The love and compassion she felt for this impoverished African-American society was instantaneous. After her mission trip in the winter of 2006, Katie could not wait any longer as she had become more and more anxious to be back where she proclaimed Home. Following her first trip to Uganda, Katie returned as a Kindergarten teacher where she taught classrooms full of poverty-stricken kids. After observing these innocent childrens daily lives, she soon realized that something needed to change for them; God laid it on Katies heart to start a child sponsorship program. The native Luganda word Amazima means truth, a word Katie took from her favorite Bible verse John 8:32 And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. Not only did Katie ecome a founder of her own organization in 2008, she also became a mother of 3 which later became a prodigious number of 13. Adoption is a beautiful picture of redemption. It is the Gospel in my living room. ( a quote from Kisses From Katie on adoption). This book doesnt portray Katies life as perfect, or herself as perfect for that matter, she is also transparent about her own struggles, The first month, I loved living there; you have all this love from these children, the next month, I feel that Im tired of washing my hair in a bucket. Spiritually, I had to rely so much on God as He stripped away all things I was dependent on. (-Katie Davis). Ultimately this book, as previously stated, was to remind the privileged of a living and loving God. Personally, Katie achieved this greatly. After reading this very inspirational and respected book, I decided to further my walk with God by applying for an internship in Nicaragua with my best friend Abbey, who is a summer missionary. One of my favorite quotes from Kisses From Katie is on page 119 where Katie says, l dont always know where this life is going. I cannot see the end of the road, but here is the great part: Courage is not about knowing the path. It is about taking the first step. It is about Peter getting ut of the boat, stepping out onto the water with complete faith that Jesus will not let him drown. That is why this book was so inspirational to me, it showed me to get out chances. Like always, theres a great ending to the book Kisses From Katie. Katie decides to officially make Uganda her home even though her parents did not want her to do this, yet still fully support her. She organized and continues to organize numerous charities for the people in Uganda. The heart of young mother and permanent missionary, Katie J. Davis is truly inspiring. This book has influenced my life and the life of many others.

Latitude Geography Overview

Latitude Geography Overview Latitude is the angular distance of any point on Earth measured north or south of the equator in degrees, minutes and seconds. The equator is a line going around Earth and is halfway between the North and South Poles, it is given a latitude of 0 °. Values increase north of the equator and are considered positive and values south of the equator decrease and are sometimes considered negative or have south attached to them. For example, if a latitude of 30 °N was given, this would mean that it was north of the equator. The latitude -30 ° or 30 °S is a location south of the equator. On a map, these are the lines running horizontally from east-west. Latitude lines are also sometimes called parallels because they are parallel and equidistant from each other. Each degree of latitude is about 69 miles (111 km) apart. The degree measure of latitude is the name of the angle from the equator while the parallel names the actual line along which degree points are measured. For example, 45 °N latitude is the angle of latitude between the equator and the 45th parallel (it is also halfway between the equator and the North Pole). The 45th parallel is the line along which all latitudinal values are 45 °. The line is also parallel to the 46th and 44th parallels. Like the equator, parallels are also considered circles of latitude or lines that circle the entire Earth. Since the equator divides the Earth into two equal halves and its center coincides with that of the Earth, it is the only line of latitude that is a great circle while all other parallels are small circles. Development of Latitudinal Measurements Since ancient times, people have tried to come up with reliable systems with which to measure their location on Earth. For centuries, both Greek and Chinese scientists attempted several different methods but a reliable one did not develop until the ancient Greek geographer, astronomer and mathematician, Ptolemy, created a grid system for the Earth. To do this, he divided a circle into 360 °. Each degree comprised 60 minutes (60) and each minute comprised 60 seconds (60). He then applied this method to Earths surface and located places with degrees, minutes and seconds and published the coordinates in his book Geography. Although this was the best attempt at defining the location of places on Earth at the time, the precise length of a degree of latitude was unresolved for around 17 centuries. In the middle ages, the system was finally fully developed and implemented with a degree being 69 miles (111 km) and with coordinates being written in degrees with the symbol  °. Minutes and seconds are written with , and , respectively. Measuring Latitude Today, latitude is still measured in degrees, minutes and seconds. A degree of latitude is still around 69 miles (111 km) while a minute is approximately 1.15 miles (1.85 km). A second of latitude is just over 100 feet (30 m). Paris, France for example, has a coordinate of 48 °5124N. The 48 ° indicates that it lies near the 48th parallel while the minutes and seconds indicate just how close it is to that line. The N shows that it is north of the equator. In addition to degrees, minutes and seconds, latitude can also be measured using decimal degrees. Paris location in this format looks like, 48.856 °. Both formats are correct, although degrees, minutes and seconds is the most common format for latitude. Both, however, can be converted between each other and allow people to locate places on Earth to within inches. One nautical mile, a mile type used by sailors and navigators in the shipping and aviation industries, represents one minute of latitude. Parallels of latitude are approximately 60 nautical (nm) apart. Finally, areas described as having low latitude are those with lower coordinates or are closer to the equator while those with high latitudes have high coordinates and are far. For example, the Arctic Circle, which has a high latitude is at 66 °32N. Bogota, Columbia with its latitude of 4 °3553N is at a low latitude. Important Lines of Latitude When studying latitude, there are three significant lines to remember. The first of these is the equator. The equator, located at 0 °, is the longest line of latitude on Earth at 24,901.55 miles (40,075.16 km). It is significant because it is the exact center of the Earth and it divides that Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres. It also receives the most direct sunlight on the two equinoxes. At 23.5 °N is the Tropic of Cancer. It runs through Mexico, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, India and southern China. The Tropic of Capricorn is at 23.5 °S and it runs through Chile, Southern Brazil, South Africa, and Australia. These two parallels are significant because they receive direct sun on the two solstices. In addition, the area between the two lines is the area known as the tropics. This region does not experience seasons and is normally warm and wet in its climate. Finally, the Arctic Circle and Antarctic Circle are also important lines of latitude. They are at 66 °32N and 66 °32S. The climates of these locations are harsh and Antarctica is the largest desert in the world. These are also the only places that experience 24-hour sunlight and 24-hour darkness in the world. Importance of Latitude Besides making it easier for one to locate different places on Earth, latitude is important to geography because it helps navigation and researchers understand the various patterns seen on Earth. High latitudes for example, have very different climates than low latitudes. In the Arctic, it is much colder and drier than in the tropics. This is a direct result of the unequal distribution of solar insolation between the equator and the rest of the Earth. Increasingly, latitude also results in extreme seasonal differences in climate because sunlight and sun angle vary at different times of the year depending on latitude. This affects temperature and the types of flora and fauna that can live in an area. Tropical rainforests, for example, are the most biodiverse places in the world while harsh conditions in the Arctic and Antarctic make it difficult for many species to survive.

Intro to fiction Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Intro to fiction - Essay Example The main character in the story sees Mangan’s sister at the time when they were playing with other boys. The boys used to admire the way Mangan’s sister walked and the ways she had made her hair. This desire in the boy is brought out when he describes the ways the hair of Mangan’s sister moved as she walked. â€Å"soft rope of hair tossed from side to side,†(Joyce 14). This story shows the way in which boys get mental confusion as they begin to notice the beauty in women. The main character in the story is still too young to understand issues of love. He does not know how to please a beautiful girl. He decides to go to the market to buy a good present for the girl hoping to win her love. However, he starts to feel some sense of confusion as he realizes the confusion of love. He fails to win the love of the girl and suffers deeply because of rejection. The behavior of the boys in the story by James Joyce is almost similar to the behavior of the three men in the story called â€Å"A Woman on a Roof.† In this second story the three men see a woman sunbathing on the roof of her house. The woman is dressed scantily and the men can see most of her nakedness. The men are caught up by desire and want to catch the attention of the women. All of them try in different ways to attract the woman but she refuses to listen to them. However, she remains on the roof as she enjoys the sun. The men are Tom, Stanley, and Harry. Tom is the youngest of them while Harry is the oldest. Tom is very much interested in loving the woman. He does not have a lot of experience in issues of love and thinks that he is the only one who can love the woman in the proper way. He does not want the other men to win the love of the woman. However, the woman rejects all of them. Stanley is very angry with the woman because he thinks that women must love men. According to Stanley, the actions of the woman are equal to â€Å"a crime gotten away with,† (Lessing 858). This means that

Why ERP Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Why ERP - Essay Example The similarities between two companies exist in terms of the product they produce i.e. furniture. The difference between companies existed in terms of the use of software. The company in North Carolina used MRP that did not yield effective results. On the other side, company in Ohio used ERP system that was helpful in employees’ training. The difference between two companies also exists in terms of volume of production. The per day production of the plant in Ohio is more than that of N. Carolina. There were different reasons that resulted in the success of SAP R/3 in Ohio. First of all, the system received the support of a number of employees, managers, and customers. The customers of the company encouraged the implementation of SAP R/3. The employees were involved in the development process that increased the effectiveness of training. ASAP is an approach that is used to implement R/3 software. The approach provides a company with steps or major phases. These steps include Project Preparation, Business Blueprint, Realization, Final Preparation, and Go Live and Support. I would have suggested the involvement of more people in order to develop the systems. Billy was not very persuasive when explaining the problems to Mr. McDougle. If I were in this situation, I would have tried my level best to analyze the decision of software implementation from both sides in order to persuade others. I would also have spent more time on getting an insight of the system in order to persuade

Censorship in art Essay -- essays research papers

Censorship in Art Censorship has existed in the United States since colonial times. In the early history of American culture censorship’s emphasis was on political statements and actions, banning literature, music and even people from being heard in this country. This leading too more closed-minded views about different cultures and society, which we are still fighting to over come in the present day. Today a better-informed America has switched their views to a more sexual content when deciding what should be publicly released. While all of this seems to violate our first amendment right, group censorship is totally legal. Hidden amongst recent censorship are many Cuban exile groups who have caused a handful of Cuban performances to be canceled or moved from South Florida, reverting us back to a society lacking the cultural activates it needs to grow.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  According to the Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia, â€Å"censorship is an official prohibition or restriction of any type of expression believed threaten political, social, or moral order.† This can be imposed by governmental authority, religious group, or by a powerful private association. Only the first out of the three makes the censorship a violation of our civil rights. The First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States says: â€Å"Congress shall make no law representing an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press...

A Book That Changed My Life Essay

We have to admit that some great books have the power to heal our souls and make us better people. Around The World in Eighty Days is just such a book to me. This book is a fiction story written by a French writer, Jules Verne. In this story, an Englishman, Phileas Fogg and his new French valet Passepartout attempt to travel around the world within eighty days just because he had a huge wager with his friends at the club. Mr Fogg wants to prove his contention that one can travel around the world in only eighty days. During their journey around the world, they met many friends and faced tons of challenges and difficulties. Besides the interesting and vivid plot of the story, this inspiring book has taught me three things when facing difficulties in life: never give up, caring others, and do something meaningful in life. First of all, of the many things that I learned from this book, one of them is overcoming difficulties. Traveling around the world in eighty days is a daydream for many persons but Mr Fogg made it successfully because he insisted and did not give up. Even though this book is a fiction, from the author’s perspective, the tools that we need for success is perseverance. Throughout the whole book, I learned that there are many difficult problems we need to be confronted with in our real life. But if you try hard to conquer it and you may find a way to be success. Therefore by the end of the book I decided to study a very tough course that I never studied before. I was really interested in this course and I want to challenge myself. Many friends laughed at me about my impulsion. But I never regret this decision. Instead, I thought it was the best decision of my life because I learned a lot from that tough process. People in the world usually like to criticize and judge others. By l earning from Mr Fogg, I realized that I should not care of those criticisms. Finally, I passed this tough course with my effort. I think it is this book makes me a much stronger person. Secondly, this book also made me understand it is more important for us to give than to receive. In the story, Mr Fogg is a very punctual and serious Englishman. And after he fights with Indian  in America, he found that his valet Passepartout was missing. Other people asked Fogg to hurry on with his journey because of the wager, but Mr Fogg refused to continue his journey without his valet. At that moment, Mr Fogg has shown his humanity and kindness. I was impressed about Mr Fogg’s selfless personality to his companion. I realized that sometimes I am a little bit self-centered. Therefore I need to be more considerate of the needs and feelings of the other people. Indeed, this book has totally changed my personality traits from a person with a negative life attitude and a little self-centered to a person with a positive life attitude, and a considerate heart. Last but not least, this book stimulates my mind to start thinking in a different way. In the story, Mr Fogg was a typical Englishman who was stubborn, punctual and serious. But he finally realized that the essence of life should be more colorful and meaningful. People need to try different ways of life. I remembered that when I was taking Asian American class, the professor told me that 99% of the people are living in a pretty boring life. They go to the same restaurant every day, sitting in the same seats and ordering the same food. If you jump out of the box and try something new or think in a different way, you will get totally new experiences and ideas that may surprise you. Mr Fogg was just a normal people before his great journey, until one day he made a bet with his friends in the club. And he did what he boasted and finally became a hero. I realized that I did nothing meaningful in my past life. So I decided to do something which can make my life more challenging and meaning ful. I joined couple of volunteer work and groups. Through that process, I gained both new life experiences and happiness. It is true that some books can greatly change our life. I learned many valuable personalities from Mr Fogg such as determination, perseverance, and selflessness. It also taught me that I need to think in a different way and do something meaningful in my life. Overall, this inspiring book has altered my behavior and changed my mind. I highly recommend this great book.

Academic Achievements And Social Adjustments Among...

International students face a variety of adjustments while studying in the United States. Researchers have provided an understanding of the kinds of adjustments international students have while adapting to university life, and one of the most discussed adjustments international student faces is with social adjustment (Andrade, 2014). Social adjustment is an effort made by an individual to cope with standards, values and needs of a society to be accepted. It can be defined as a psychological process. In this matter, social adjustment can either be a positive or negative experience for international students. The article â€Å"Academic achievements and social adjustments among international students’ stated â€Å"that students who have frequent contact with fellow students from their home country are happier with their experience in America than those students who have little contact with peers from their home country (Calaguas, 2011). This preference could be due to lack of institutional support. To help this matter, universities must increase international students’ awareness by socializing and getting them involved with other peers from different beliefs and identity. However, choosing who to socialize with is one social adjustment, international students must make. Not only that, living in a new country and a new culture takes some time to get used to and requires adjustments to differences in climate, food, time, and social interaction.
